This paper outlines how the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) has worked to achieve safety and peace of mind for passengers at stations, especially on platforms. As part of the safety measures for platforms, platform screen doors have been installed at all stations along the Yamanote Line. In addition, Braille blocks with lines indicating the inward side of the platform at stations have been installed. Furthermore, several campaigns have been conducted to raise customers’ awareness of safety; for example, some campaign titles were “Don’t use a smartphone while walking” and “Let’s eliminate platform accidents.”
