A paper which discusses changing Irish Rail Engineering’s approach to safety. The changes delivered a 69% reduction in occupational safety lost time accidents and a similarly significant reduction in asset safety risk. In developing the new safety management system, the use of Lean Manufacturing principles can contribute significantly to the robustness, simplicity and effectiveness of that SMS.
