A paper describing how Transnet Freight Rail introduced new locomotives and new technologies. Operational readiness included interventions for employees involved in all aspects of introducing new assets. The human-machine interface is significant and has to be carefull manged. The paper shows that if properly planned and managed, legacy and modern systems can coexist.
